Area Sales Manager

Greys Specialist Recruitment are working on behalf of a leading national plant hire business who are looking to appoint an experienced Area Sales Manager to join their established Northern Sales team.

This is a field-based role covering the Northwest region, including areas such as Manchester, Liverpool, Bolton, Preston, Lancaster and North Wales. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and growing existing customer relationships, while also identifying and developing new business opportunities across the region.

The Role

As Area Sales Manager, you will be responsible for building strong, long-term relationships with customers across the construction, concrete, plant hire and wider site services markets.

The role will involve regular customer visits, account reviews and service meetings, with a focus on understanding upcoming projects, identifying future opportunities and promoting a full range of plant hire and specialist equipment services.

Alongside account management, you will also be expected to proactively research and canvass the region, identify potential new customers, establish contact with decision-makers and build a pipeline of future business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow existing accounts across the Northwest region.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers through regular site visits, account reviews and service meetings.
  • Identify future projects and potential business opportunities.
  • Promote a range of specialist plant hire and equipment services.
  • Research and qualify new business prospects across the region.
  • Approach potential new accounts and build relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Create and manage a sales pipeline and forecast.
  • Negotiate pricing for hire fleet and additional services.
  • Work towards agreed sales targets and KPIs.
  • Track activity and performance using relevant sales metrics.
  • Attend monthly sales meetings and report to senior leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete general sales administration where required.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, commercially driven sales professional with experience managing accounts and developing new business in a field-based role.

You will ideally have experience within one or more of the following sectors:

  • Plant hire
  • Concrete / concrete pumping
  • Construction equipment
  • Construction services
  • Groundworks
  • Civil engineering
  • Site services
  • Heavy equipment or machinery hire

Experience selling into Tier 1 / Tier 2 contractors, major construction customers or project-led accounts would be highly advantageous.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven Area Sales Manager, Account Manager or Business Development background.
  • Experience managing major accounts and customer relationships.
  • Ability to generate new business and develop a sales territory.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confident attending customer meetings and site visits.
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to negotiate pricing and manage opportunities.
  • IT literate, including Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English.
